Nemacheilus troglocataractus is one of a few blind, cave dwelling loach species. Due to its very limited location it is at risk from collection for aquaria so it is its collection for the hobby is seen to be unethical.
Lives only in caves, in headwater stream with a relatively low volume of water flowing over rocks, alternating with small pools and gravel-bottomed shallow areas. Individuals have been seen seen adhering to rocks in fast-flowing, well-aerated water or swimming in pools.
Blind cave loaches are known to have been imported into North America and it is possible they were this species. Its inclusion here is out of interest alone.
